Tattersalls

This business is an awesome Australian company that offers great products.

They describe themselves as:
In the 1800s, Australia provided a litany of stories about our pioneers, men and women who possessed extraordinary drive, character and enterprise to overcome the odds. George Adams was one of those people. Alone, he came to Australia from England at just 16 years of age. In turn, young George worked as a coach driver, a stock dealer, a saddler, a baker and even tried his luck on the goldfields. But in 1881 as a publican, he organised a public sweep on the Sydney Cup - and the rest is history!

Appropriately, a horse called "Progress" won the Cup and it has been progress from that day forward - the George Adams fledgling sweepstakes was the first of the cornerstones on which more than a hundred and twenty years of Tattersall's history has been built.

Tasmania also provided a crucial part of the foundation for much of the business as we know it today. While George Adams confronted a number of "mainland" obstacles in the formative days of his business, the near collapse of the Bank of Van Diemen's Land and a teetering Tasmanian economy created the opportunity for the lottery business to prosper. Encouraged to move to Hobart in 1895 - a move sanctioned by the Tasmanian Government, Tattersall's organised a Grand Lottery of a number of the Bank's major properties.

It was another vital phase in the Tattersall's story.

Another significant milestone for Tattersall's occurred on June 22, 1972 when Victorians sat down in front of their televisions to watch the first live Australian Tattslotto draw. Now a household institution, Australian Tattslotto today offers a Division One prize pool averaging more than $3 million - a far cry from the top prize of $50,000 when it began in 1972. It took a while for lottery games to catch on, but when Superdraws were introduced, more and more Australians embraced the game.

The popularity of Australian Tattslotto has also led to the launch of a number of new games.

Oz Lotto became the first nation-wide lottery, drawn live on national television for the first time on February 22, 1994 and Powerball is now capturing the Australian imagination with a nationally televised draw each Thursday night.

Since the early days of Tattslotto, Superdraws have skyrocketed the First Division prize pools to figures well over $20 million. Tattersall's products can also be purchased via our online lottery website.
